Ministers Wives (Instruction Manual) by Bobbie Powers © 2011 Chapter 8 Abilities Various people have various skills and abilities. Some people have one ability, while other people have several abilities. Skill and abilities are not given by God in order that some people can be more important than others. Abilities are not to be used to “glorify” man. Instead skills and abilities are to be used to bring glory and honor to God. Ministers wives should never depend on their skills and abilities in order to achieve self recognition and self-glory. Neither should a minister’s wife covet the abilities of anyone else. A minister’s wife has been called to the position she holds by God. Therefore, God will equip her to fulfill that position. God will supply all the abilities and skills she will need in order to meet the responsibilities of that position. The Holy Spirit’s power will be evident in the skills and abilities and these skills and abilities will continually grow. A minister’s wife must be faithful with the little or much skill and ability that she has been given by God. She is not to sit and complain, but instead to seek God’s advice on how to best implement what He has given her. There is no room for ignorance. A minister’s wife should not say that she doesn’t have any skills or ability or that she doesn’t know what skills and abilities God has given to her. A minister’s wife must go to God and ask Him to reveal to her what skills and abilities He has placed in her life. It is the minister’s wife’s responsibility to find out and put these skills and abilities to proper use. Some skills might be revealed as a natural ability that God has placed in a person when they were born. Some examples of natural abilities might be art, music, physical adeptness, organizational, or memory skills. Other abilities are discovered through work experiences such as sales abilities, typing, carpentry, baking, gardening, home decorating etc. Whenever a skill or ability appears it should always be used to glorify God. “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” (Colossians 3.17)
