The best way to understand what apostles are called to do is to look at the lives of the apostles in the New Testament. Here are a few things that you will see--I'm sure as you study the New Testament you will find many more things that apostles do. They start new work. They break trail--new areas--new ground for the Kingdom. They are on the cutting edge--therefore they can be a target for opposition. They teach and train ministers in the Word. They help establish others in ministry. They are involved with signs, wonders, and miracles. They are set apart and sent by the Holy Ghost. They don't stay in one place, but travel extensively. They travel usually with at least one other person who is a partner in ministry or a young leader being trained. Many times they are singled out for enemy attack and have to face the attack alone--because even the ones they are associated with will desert them under pressure. They face many unusual situations that require total dependence on the Holy Ghost. They suffer intense persecution because of the Word. They are actively seeking ways to go into new places with the Gospel. They have boldness to confront other leaders--even fellow apostles-- to correct or instruct. They are humble and seek only the furtherance of the Kingdom of God--even risking their very lives for the sake of the Gospel. In Christ,Bobbie |
