Broken Spirit

Guard against allowing sin or the wrong kind of sorrow (Godly sorrow leads to repentance--I'm talking about the human sorrow you just can't get over) to break your spirit--a wounded spirit is not bearable --it destroys your health

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.  Proverbs 15.13

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Proverbs 17.22

What if your spirit is already broken or wounded?

Come to God in the name of Jesus and ask Him to heal your spiritual wounds.  Ask Him to give you the oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

God will not despise you when you come to Him sorry for your sins which have wounded  your spirit. David cried unto God after he had been involved in sexual sin and murder and was broken and sorrowful for his sin.

"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving-kindness; according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.  For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me... The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." Psalms 51.1-3,17
