Becoming a Man of God

CHAPTER 1- WHO GOD IS Before we can even think about changing the world for Christ, we must be confident in who God is. Many in the world today have some concept of God, but not all are correct. Theirs is a false god, a god of their own design. In Isaiah 40, we read of the person who creates their own false god out of gold, silver, or wood. While we may no longer hear of many who still actually physically make an idol (although the practice is more common than one might think), people are still serving false gods today, whether they actually have names or are material things such as money or fame. We as Christian men must be bold enough to declare our belief in Jesus, not just as an idea equal with the other false gods, but as distinctly true and undeniable fact. It is a great tragedy when we cower at the idea of confessing Jesus as Lord in public. We shame the Lord when we accept others’ false gods by saying “Well, I guess they are taking a different road to God.” In reality, they are taking many different roads to hell. This principle must be first and foremost in our lives if we are to succeed: the God of the Bible is the one true God and His way is the right and true way. No other substitutes or imitations are accepted. In Psalms 119:140 we learn that God’s Word is “very pure.” A definition of the word pure is “without mixture.” God leaves no room for additional gospels. We do not need “bits of truth” from other religions to back us up. We do not need “superior reasoning” to prove our point. We simply need His Word and His power. To back down from these two things is to lose it all. But once we begin to truly recognize while reading His Word and listening to His voice who God is, we will be changed, just as the disciples were changed when they realized that the man they were walking around with was more than just a mere man; we was God in human flesh, Emmanuel, the fulfillment of hundreds of Bible prophecies. Realizing this truth was what made them different from the other fishermen of Galilee. They went on to greater things than even the richest man in the province. Why? They simply followed Jesus. It was Jesus that changed them, not self-improvement. As we follow Him, we are changed as well. KEY VERSES: Isaiah 40, Psalms 119:140
