Audio Abba Father Chapter 5 click here Abba Father by Bobbie Powers © 2011 Chapter 5 ABBA FATHER MAKES SURE I AM WELL FED "Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof…this is the gift of God." Ecclesiastes 5:19
Food is necessary in order to live and develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. As a baby, my son "grabbed" his bottle eagerly when he was hungry. He was given a certain amount of bottles a day. He did not help prepare the bottles – he simply received them. He did not even know what milk was for – he was not concerned about his nutrition. He was just hungry.
NUTRITION, FOOD PREPARATION, SCHEDULING – THAT WAS MY JOB, AS A PARENT. JUST LIKE ABBA FATHER.
As my son progressed from baby food to carrying sack lunches, nutrition still remained my responsibility. I knew the food charts. I knew how many helpings of each food group he was supposed to have each day. Not only did I see to it that he had a well balanced diet, but as he grew I also taught him about the different food groups. Many times he would look at his plate and say, "There is the milk group, the bread/cereal group, etc." He would actually check his plate to make sure he had everything he needed!
AS A PARENT, I WANTED MY SON TO NOT ONLY EAT RIGHT, BUT TO KNOW HOW TO DISCERN BETWEEN "JUNK" FOOD AND "REAL" FOOD. JUST LIKE ABBA FATHER.
Certain foods went with certain times of growth. Strained baby food certainly had no place at age five. My son had grown beyond the "strained" food stage. The food was the same (carrots, peas, green beans, etc.), but the texture was different. It was more complex. The food did not need to be mashed because my son had baby teeth.
AS MY SON GREW, I AS A PARENT CHANGED THE TEXTURE OF THE FOOD. JUST LIKE ABBA FATHER.
My son’s growth in age also brought a change in the size of the serving. My son in the 12th grade definitely could eat more food, than when he was in the first grade. I began to increase my trips to the store in order to keep a "well-stocked" refrigerator. I began to buy larger sized items--- simply because he had gone from a child’s appetite to an adult’s appetite. My budget for food increased.
I GLADLY PAID THE COST---- IN ORDER TO KEEP AN ABUNDANT PROVISION FOR A HEALTHY, GROWING SON. JUST LIKE ABBA FATHER.
When my son was in elementary school his favorite meats were bacon and hot dogs. Now, that he is grown, he prefers steaks. When he was young, he "fussed" about certain vegetables. I would tell him that when he was older he would like them. He does. As my son has grown up his "taste" has become adult. He now desires adult food.
IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY AS A PARENT TO PROVIDE HIM WITH ADULT FOOD. JUST LIKE ABBA FATHER.
My son and I sit down now and share "adult" food together. We enjoy eating and talking together during a meal. I do not have to tell him to eat his vegetables – he knows.
INSTEAD, WE CAN TALK ABOUT MORE "GROWN-UP" THINGS. JUST LIKE ABBA FATHER.
PRAYER
Dear Abba Father, Thank You for "feeding" me. You always have my meals ready every day. They are just right for me. You pay attention to my nutrition. I have grown from the "milk of the Word" to the meat. Even now you are teaching me about "the strong meat" that I only get to enjoy as I grow and become more mature in You. Thank you for watching over me so carefully through the years. You want me healthy and strong and You take time everyday to sit with me at "meal time." I like how our conversations have changed at meal time. I enjoy the sweet fellowship as we sit down at Your table together. I come away full and blessed. Thank You in Jesus' Name, I love You. Your child.
