12 Killers of
the Christian
by Bobbie Powers
Chapter 11
Your
Words
Words are important.
God showed the importance and
power of words when in
Genesis God spoke creation into
existence.
Furthermore, Jesus is
"The Word" that became flesh and
dwelt among us, and the Holy
Spirit wrote the Bible, the
inspired written word of God.
Proverbs 18.21 states
that, "Death and life are in the
power of the tongue, and they
that love it shall eat the
fruit thereof."
Are we as Christians
"eating the fruit thereof"? There
are many people who walk
around and talk about the power of
positive thinking and
positive confession and they sincerely
believe that this is from
God. However, it is possible to be
sincerely wrong. When these
"positive believing" people
encounter only "half" results
or when they don't see God's
power in the situation, these
same people may reverse their
thinking about God and decide
that God must not care or
God's power isn't for today.
Positive thinking and
positive confession is the
devil's imitation or
counterfeit of God's plan. Positive
thinking and positive
confession has its roots in humanism--
it relies on MAN's power to
bring about change. This is
Satan's trick as an angel of
light. Any attempts at positive
thinking will fail in the
end, and they will definitely have
no eternal value as they are
based on earthly humanistic
attempts.
Remember, God is not
mocked. If a person sows to the
flesh he will indeed of the
flesh reap corruption. Many
Christians have fallen into
this trap, because they knew
that God had more for their
lives and that this humanistic
deception was "close" to the
real thing. However, close does
not count with God. Something
is either right or wrong
according to the Word of God.
Life or death are the
only two options regarding
the words that a person speaks.
Life only comes through
words that line up with the
Word of God and that are then
empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Humanistic words can
ultimately only bring death to the
speaker of them. Remember
that the devil only comes to steal
kill, and destroy. Positive
thinking and positive humanistic
confession may look good and
sound good in the beginning,
but it will not only ensnare
the Christian who falls for it,
but will also, kill God's
power in their life.
A Christian is to know
and to confess the Word of God
daily. Many Christians perish
for the lack of the knowledge
of God. They don't know what
the Bible says and they are
confessing the wrong things
because of ignorance concerning
what God says in His Word.
Many Christians do not take
the time to study the Word of God
and find out what God's will
is for their lives.
They follow doctrines of men,
rather than reading the Bible
for themselves. They depend
on what another person says
or preaches, rather than
checking first to see if it is true to
the Word Of God.
A Christian's words
should always be in accordance
with the Word of God. God
gave the Christian eternal
abundant life through Jesus
Christ.
Any teaching that takes
away from Jesus having
absolute control of a
believer's life is a false doctrine
and should be immediately
discarded.
As a believer reads and
studies the Bible the Holy
Spirit will convict the
believer of any erroneous and
deceiving doctrines in their
life. At this point, then the
believer must immediately
discard and renounce these false
doctrines, ask God to forgive
him for his sin, and to
cleanse him from his sin and
to renew his mind.
If a Christian is in a
church that teaches humanistic
doctrines, then the Christian
needs to leave that church and
find a church that stands
firm on Jesus and His power alone.
As Christians we could
not save ourselves through our
human works--we are saved by
grace, the unmerited favor of
God. Therefore, why do we as
Christians feel that by using
our own human efforts we can
make ourselves more "Godly"?
It is an impossibility.
Only the Holy Spirit in us can change
us and make us like Jesus. We
are to be simply obedient to
the Word and what our
teacher, the Holy Spirit, tells us to
do.
A Christian in their
life is to confess who Jesus is,
what He has done for them at
Calvary, and to boldly proclaim
every word of the Bible.
Jesus told the devil that man does
not live by bread alone, but
by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of God.
There is life in the Word of God.
For example, when the
Word of God says that we are more
than conquerors through Him
that loved us and gave Himself
for us. We need to remember
to confess that we are more than
conquerors THROUGH JESUS and
not ourselves. We can conqueror
nothing in our human name.
It's the mighty name of
Jesus-the name above all names-
that rips darkness and evil
apart, not our name. It's the blood of Jesus
that cleanses from sin, not
anything that we do, because our
righteousness is as filthy
rags. Even our witnessing
to others has no effect
without the power of the Holy Spirit
to convict of sin,
righteousness, and judgment.
We are to confess who
we are IN CHRIST JESUS and the
emphasis is on Jesus
Christ--not on us.
We have health because
of our healer--Jesus. By His
stripes we are healed. We as
believers are NEVER to seek
health or healing--we are to
seek the Healer, Jesus Christ--
the Anointed One--He is our
emphasis--He is our confession.
As we focus on Jesus then He
is able to heal us.
Furthermore, we are not
to seek deliverance. Instead we
are to seek Jesus who is our
deliverer. We are never to seek
the "thing" we are to always
seek our Savior, Jesus Christ
who is able to give us all
things freely that we have need
of in order to live fully the
abundant Christian life.
The emphasis of a
Christian and their words should
always center on Jesus-the I
AM. We should be talking and
breathing Jesus every second
of our lives.
Abundant life will then
truly be manifested, because
Jesus is The Way, The Truth,
and The Life.
You can see Jesus in
every book of the Bible--the Word
of God. The Bible is our
guide as Christians. Should
not our lives show Jesus and
His power alone?
Should not our words confess
that Jesus is Lord with power
and demonstration of the Holy
Spirit?
We need to get out of
humanistic based philosophies and
conversations. We as
Christians need to heed Proverbs 19.27
that states, "Cease my son ,
to hear the instruction that
causeth thee to err from the
words of knowledge."
