12 Killers of the Christian

by Bobbie Powers

Chapter 9

 Your Time

Time is such a precious commodity that people complain

about not having enough of it.

"There never seems to be enough time to do all the things

that we need or want to  do."

What a false statement for a Christian to make. We as

believers need to stop complaining and start making the

correct use of the 24 hours per day that the Lord has given

 us.

Time is a gift from God to mankind. The rotation of the

earth on its axis and the revolution of the earth around the

sun give us our days, seasons, and years.

Do we as Christians "go quietly" through our days

before the Lord or are the days of our earthly dwelling time

filled with chaos and strife?

Do we spend our time yielded to God's control or vainly

struggling to maintain our daily routine of existence?

We as Christians need to remember that we are

accountable to God for being good stewards of the time

allotted to us here on earth. We are told to redeem the time

for the days are evil, because time under the world's

decision making process is corrupt.

For example, the world uses time for vanity (pride) and

selfish desires. The world says "play" and don't worry about

the consequences. The world says that a person's own needs

have top priority and that there may be no time for the

needs of anyone else. The world says don't be concerned

about the results or about eternity, just enjoy the here and

now.

Christians should never get caught up in the world's

way of looking at time. The hustle and pressure of a world

racing against time and rushing toward ultimate destruction

is causing sickness (ulcers, nerves, etc.), frustration,

fear, and death to those who follow its guidelines and live

under the control of worldly timelines.

Christians need to be free in order to redeem the time.

A Christian should through the direction of the Holy Spirit

be able to enjoy the days of life. "This is a day that the

Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it." Time out

of God's control can destroy a Christian's life. Here

are listed some examples:

GOD SAYS Take time to be holy. Spend time with me.

WORLD SAYS No time to read the Bible or pray daily. It isn't necessary. God will understand.

GOD SAYS Spend time with your family.

WORLD SAYS Use more time to work. Your family can have nicer things. It's better than time with them.

GOD SAYS Go to church and worship. Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together.

WORLD SAYS Just give some money. Let other people who have more time do the church work.

GOD SAYS Don't bury your talents. Use them for the Lord.

WORLD SAYS Let someone else do it. No time for extra rehearsals, teaching a class, or involvement.

GOD SAYS Put My Kingdom first. Share the Gospel.

WORLD SAYS I work hard all week. Any extra time I have is mine to do what I want to do.

GOD SAYS Seek me early.

WORLD SAYS I'm sleeping in today. I'll talk with God at my convenience.

GOD SAYS Be led by The Holy Spirit. Wait on the Lord.

WORLD SAYS Don't wait--hurry. You're wasting time. Go for it.

GOD SAYS Cast all your care upon Him. Let God guide your decisions.

WORLD SAYS Expend energy and time. You can make it work.

If we as Christians don't have time for God then we do

have time for destruction.

If we don't let our days prosper for the Lord, then our

days will amount to nothing.

Every day of our lives is precious. It will never occur

again. Whatever is done or left undone is recorded by God.

We as Christians need to get off the worldly pace and

set our priorities on God. It is not "okay" to be careless

with our days. God never "understands" or condones the

breaking of His commands or rules for our lives. He simply

calls it SIN--and sin brings death.

We need to choose life.
