12 Killers of the Christian

by Bobbie Powers

Chapter 7

 Your Intellect

God's ways are past finding out. His ways are higher

than our ways. Man's thoughts are not God's thoughts. God

knows the end from the beginning. He is omniscient.

When God created Adam and Eve they were made in God's

image. They had a soul (mind, will , emotions), a spirit,

and a physical body. When sin entered mankind became

alienated from God.

How did sin get a hold on Eve--it started with a

thought put in her mind by the serpent (devil)--"Did God

say...?"

Eve didn't just "grab" the fruit thoughtlessly. Eve's

temptation began with a thought that she allowed herself to

think about, discuss, and then it resulted in the action of

disobedience to God. In other words, a thought dwelt upon

becomes an action, an action becomes a habit, and a habit

becomes a way of life.

Our minds or intellect can become the greatest enemy of

our Christian life. The Bible states that as a man thinketh

in his heart so is he.

Our mind is where the devil attacks first. That is why

it is so important to have "the mind of Christ" and to have

the "peace of God" which guards our hearts and minds.

If we as Christians depend on our reasoning ability to

know and do the will of God we will definitely fail and miss

out on what God intends for our lives.

Hosea 4.6 states that God's people are destroyed for

lack of the knowledge of God. We must be careful what we

look at, listen to, and spend our time observing. The world

is constantly barraging us with worldly, fleshly thoughts.

We as Christians need to begin to bombard our minds

with the Word of God. Sadly, many believers spend more time

reading the newspaper or watching TV than they do reading

the Word of God.

We talk about faith, but we have none. Why? Faith

comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. There is no

substitute for the Word of God in a Christian's life. The

Word of God must be the source of our decision making and

not our "common sense".

For example, man's human "common sense" says, "You

can't see it, therefore it must not exist". The Word of God

says that faith is the evidence of things not seen.

Human intellect will say, "It's impossible". The Bible

says that with God all things are possible.

The thought process of the world says, "Save or take in

order to get".

The Bible says that we must first give in order to

receive.

The world's intellect is totally opposite of God's way

of life for the believer. To be a friend of the world is to

be the enemy of God.

Furthermore, our intellect is finite. Man's greatest

achievements are limited to time and space as we know it.

With God there is no limitations. He created time and space.

He sets the rules, not man. Man cannot "figure out" God.

Therefore, how can a man dare to trust his own intellect

over God?

The world's ways and thoughts are not God's ways or

thoughts.

We need to have "the mind of Christ" controlling our

lives as Christians.

Jesus knows everything and He's already been in our

future. He alone can guide the Christian safely through all

the world's deceptions and lies.

A Christian cannot afford to think and order their

lives according to the world's thoughts and ways. To do so,

could shorten a Christian's life-span.

For example, there are many Christian's walking

around today, physically well, because Jesus did an

"impossible" miracle of healing in their lives. What if

these Christians had trusted their own intellect instead of

trusting God and His Word?

A Christian should never perish because of ignorance of

God's mighty power. We as Christians need to know the

Word of God and to apply what God tells us to our everyday

thoughts and actions.

A Christian's thoughts must always be in submission to

God. Any thought that does not glorify God should be cast

out immediately. Never should that thought even be

considered for a second. In the name of Jesus the evil

thought must go, it cannot dwell where Jesus is in control.

Jesus must be in control of every area of a Christian's

life, including the mind. What a Christian reads or watches

is what he will focus on and become like. The Bible tells us

as believers that as we behold Jesus we are changed into His

likeness.

Therefore, let us rejoice in the Lord and in the power

of His might.
