Ministers Wives (Instruction Manual) by Bobbie Powers © 2009 Chapter 7 Encouragement A minister’s wife needs to be an encourager to the body of Christ.. She needs to have her speech seasoned with salt and the law of kindness needs to be on her lips. Every person that she comes in contact with should have seen “God” in her conversation with them. In order to be an encourager of others a person must first know and experience the encouragement of the Lord Jesus Christ. Even with discipline or chastisement the Lord brings peace, hope, and encouragement to His followers. The Lord will never leave His children in despair or hopelessness. “My son despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him; For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening God dealeth with you as sons, for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous; nevertheless, afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them who are exercised by it.” “Wherefore, lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord; Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and by it many be defiled.” (Hebrews 12.5-7, 11-15) The Bible states that God’s chastening if for His children’s profit, that they might be partakers of His holiness. A minister’s wife should never be afraid to come to God for correction. God is much more compassionate and merciful than people will ever even conceive of being. God does not use revenge or guilt in dealing with His children. Instead, He holds out His arms and says, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy leaden and I will give you rest.” “Neither do I condemn thee, go and sin no more,” speaks clearly of God’s forgiveness and compassion for sinners. When God’s people fail, God is there ready to help them. Jesus showed God’s mercy when from the cross He stated, “ Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” A minister’s wife needs to extend God’s compassion and mercy to others. She needs to be an encourager and not a discourager of the brethren. A minister’s wife should not be negative or critical of others in her attitude. She should be willing ot go the “extra mile”. People who are having problems should be able to seek her out for her wise counsel. A minister’s wife should have discretion and Godly wisdom as attributes of her character. She should always be about her Heavenly Father’s business of reaching out to others with the good news and encouragement of a loving Heavenly Father and a redeeming Savior.
