It is written again---It is said.

These words were Jesus' response to the devil quoting scripture to Him during the temptation in the wilderness as recorded in Matthew 4.7 and in  Luke 4.12

They were followed by the words, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord your God."

What audacity to think of the devil trying to use the Word  against Jesus the Word made flesh (John 1.12)

The devil hasn't changed--he still will use the Word to tempt Christians to get in the ditch.

Paul talks about wresting the scriptures and the consequences in relation to deception--

How many times Christians will say--"God told me to do this--but it troubles me--but I have the scripture--therefore it must be God."

I John 4.1 tells us not to believe every spirit but to try the spirits--"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world."

The devil asked Eve--Did God say?-- surely He didn't mean exactly what He said--Eve was deceived.

Taking scripture out of context, using parts of scriptures to prove your point, or mis-quoting scriptures are all deception tricks--to tempt the Christian to go the wrong way.

How do you tell the difference?--the Word with power.  Holy Spirit discernment.  Study the Word and let the Holy Spirit teach you.

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (II Timothy 2.15)

In Christ,
